Madhur Bhandarkar’s next film, Indu Sarkar, about a babbling poet who rebels against the system, will see actor Neil Nitin Mukesh in a central role.
For the film, Bhandarkar has been doing extensive research with his writer and has met a lot of people to get information about the 21-month Emergency imposed on the country by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975-77. He even met Subramanian Swamy and exchanged notes with him on Emergency. While the film has the name of Indu in its title, it is believed that the film will not have a direct reference to late afternoon, Indira Gandhi.
Neil, who previously collaborated with Bhandarkar on the 2009 film Jail, will join Pink actor Kirti Kulhari, who is in the lead role and Bengali actor Tota Roy Chowdhury in the film. Tota Roy has made several films such as Chokher Bali (he was opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), Te3n, the short of Sujoy Ghosh Ahalya and the next Kahaani 2.
